Introduction

These anthologies have been carefully curated to offer a broad range of material: we explore gender identity, race and heritage, and the lives of people with disabilities. We examine history through the lens of contemporary writing, adventure into magical worlds, and reflect on today’s society. We look at the pandemic and its impact on young people, we look back to our roots and consider what ‘home’ means, and we also look to the future: to our worries, dreams, and ambitions.

These anthologies have been split up into themes designed to suit a range of ages. They contain material for young Learners who are just entering the world of performance, and material for older, more experienced storytellers. This body of work is catered to actors, of course, but it also welcomes young historians, animal-lovers, writers, or gamers. To put it simply, we hope these writings spark your curiosity beyond the realm of a LAMDA Exam. It is a pleasure to hand over to the likes of Winsome Pinnock, Alecky Blythe, Brian Friel, Sophie Wu and Sudha Bhuchar. Discovering their work has been a joy, and I hope you have an equally fulfilling experience as readers, Learners, teachers, and performers.
